About Tim
Tim Ireland is a Yarra Valley historical storyteller, musician and guest speaker whose work brings Australian family history to life through storytelling, poetry and original music.
His flagship presentation, Ghost of Castlemaine, grew from more than 30 years of research into his Scottish ancestors George and Isabella Ireland—known through their writing as Tam Rattray and Isa. They sailed from Scotland to Victoria aboard the Diadem in 1852 and made their home on the Mount Alexander goldfields. Through the poetry they left behind, family documents and his own songs, Tim explores the humour, hardship, love and resilience carried across generations.
Tim has spent more than three decades performing as a guitarist, singer and songwriter across folk, blues and roots music, both solo and alongside harmonica player Ian “The Captain” Green. His wider work includes music education and the inclusive AllStars Choir.
His book, The Poetry of Tam Rattray & Isa, collects the writing of his ancestors and sits at the heart of a growing historical archive.
Whether performing in a historical society, community hall, school, festival or listening room, Tim’s aim is simple: to make the people behind the names feel present again.
